Meet Alex Barr

Alexander is a born and raised District 4 resident who has called Davie home for over 40 years. He still lives in the house he grew up in, and is currently raising his children in the same community — a testament to how deeply rooted this family is in the place they love.

Alex holds a Civil Engineering degree from Florida International University and has built his career in public service, working for the Florida Department of Transportation, several local municipalities, and Broward County. That experience gives him a practical, firsthand understanding of how government works and what it takes to make sound decisions on behalf of residents.

Beyond his professional background, Alex is a passionate rare fruit tree farmer with over 30 varieties growing on his property — a reflection of his deep appreciation for the agricultural character that makes District 4 truly unique. Preserving that character and protecting the open, agricultural availability of this community is at the heart of why he is running.

Alex is not a politician. He is a neighbor, a professional, and a lifelong member of this community who believes District 4 deserves a council member who has spent a lifetime invested in it. He is running to make sure Davie stays the kind of place families are proud to call home for generations to come.

Throughout my career, I’ve focused on finding practical solutions that make our roads safer, improve mobility, and make a real difference in people’s everyday lives. Here are a few projects that reflect the kind of leadership and problem-solving experience I would bring to public service.

Making Roads Safer for Drivers and Cyclists

I designed a project that included two roundabouts and new bike lanes along a two-mile stretch of a local municipal roadway. The improvements helped reduce traffic incidents at the intersections while creating safer conditions for cyclists and other road users. It was a great example of how thoughtful infrastructure improvements can make our community safer for everyone.

An Innovative Approach to Railroad Safety

One of the projects I’m especially proud of was an innovative railroad crossing safety initiative that earned me a Florida TaxWatch Productivity Award. I developed and implemented a deterrent system designed to prevent vehicles from entering railroad crossings when it was unsafe to do so. After the system was installed, vehicle incursions were reduced to zero.

The success of this project went beyond the communities where it was first implemented. The approach was subsequently adopted by Brightline and Tri-Rail at railroad crossings throughout Florida. Knowing that an idea I helped develop is being used to improve safety across our state is one of the accomplishments I’m most proud of.

Investing in Our Children’s Safety

I also received a Prudential Productivity Award for successfully securing grant funding through the Safe Routes to School program for a local elementary school. The school needed improvements to make it safer for children walking and biking to school. The project included new crosswalk markings, updated school signage, and wider sidewalks.

These projects represent more than roads, grants, and infrastructure. They represent my approach to public service: identify a problem, find a practical solution, secure the resources to make it happen, and deliver results for the community. That is the experience and commitment I will bring to serving you.
